How Toy became a Career Coach
A defining moment in my life happened in 2000.
I worked in the corporate environment for 20 years. After concluding an office meeting one summer’s day, while I was driving home a strange moment washed over me.
Everything was going well at work; business was good, the atmosphere at the office was pleasant and we had yet another successful meeting. There were enough logical reasons I could think of to be satisfied with my job. But - all of a sudden - questions welled up from deep within me: “Is this all there is to it? Will I have to do this work for the rest of my life? Is there a purpose to what I’m doing? Does my work make a difference in the world? Why am I here?”
From that day forward, I underwent an inner change; despite being highly successful in my career; I began to enjoy my job less and less - until I reached a point where my work felt totally meaningless. My life lost its color and my desire to know my purpose in life became the smoldering driving force to my existence.
In my quest for an answer, I went from one psychometric test and psychological assessment to the next - but none brought me to the answer I was seeking. I felt stuck. I felt trapped.
Eventually I realized that my habitual thinking pattern was the single chief factor that held me back from stepping into a bright, happy future! I discovered that many fears prevented me from making the change I so yearned for. After that light bulb moment I decided to reset my focus; I began to consciously explore possibilities, instead of seeing my fears and identifying obstacles. And guess what? My mood started lifting; I became excited about life; and the seed of possibility thinking began to take root in my heart and life.
Shortly after that I stumbled upon an article on life coaching. As I researched life coaching as a career possibility, a vision started forming deep within my heart…and I realized I had at last discovered my purpose and passion in life!
In 2004, after formally qualifying as a life coach, I established my practice. Based on my own journey through life I developed a process for change, which – over the years – has helped many people discover the direction for their life and develop a career they love
Most importantly, with my help the journey to make a career change is greatly shortened for my clients; unlike it was for me. It does not take years for my clients to determine the direction of their life and discover the path to a fulfilling and meaningful career.
Career Roles
Toy is a Life & Career Coach, an accredited Whole Brain Practitioner and Personal Development Consultant.
She is the creator of The Career Design Process™, a step-by-step coaching program proven to help people discover their life direction and a career they love.
As a Life Coach, she helps people to discover their purpose in life. Through one-on-one coaching, workshops and training, she gives people the tools and self-knowledge to discover and follow their dreams and passions.
As a Career Coach, Toy helps adults to make a career change for more meaningful work. She also works with young people who want to make a career choice that will be meaningful and which is an expression of who they really are.
As a Whole Brain Practitioner, she teaches people whole brain skills. With right brain skills they are able to create a vision for their life. Left brain skills help them to implement a plan to realize their vision. People understand themselves better, are able to make much better choices and experience a feeling of empowerment to go for what they really want in life. This brings meaning and tremendous satisfaction into their lives.
Toy’s Developmental Path
Growing up in the Karoo, instilled in her a love for nature and animals. She started her working career at Onderstepoort after qualifying as a veterinary nurse. She got involved with the training of veterinary students and discovered the joy of coaching, teaching and working with people.
Toy subsequently entered the corporate environment where she had a very successful career. After 20 years she became restless. She wanted to discover her purpose in life and began a long road of personal discovery and development.

She first had to get to know her true self: her personality, what and how situations affected her and why she reacted the way she did. She then had to learn the skills to handle herself more effectively, in order to get better results in her personal and work life. She had to learn how to uncover her dreams, desires and aspirations. How to set goals and achieving them was a big part of the development process. All of this eventually lead to Toy discovering her purpose and passion in life which then lead to a total career change.
Today she says: “Being able to walk in personal wholeness and effectiveness, is worth all the hard work and commitment it took.”
On a personal note: Toy enjoys reading, music, nature, animals, gardening and red wine. Sunshine, a full moon and the breath of a small puppy are some of her favorite things. As part of her development and growth she participated in white river rafting, abseiling, scuba diving, swimming with dolphins in the Caribbean, skydiving, hiking the Otter trail, quad biking, sand boarding in the Namib desert and overcoming her phobia of spiders. She is friendly, loyal and supportive by nature.
Her greatest pleasure is when she sees people coming into their own just as God intended for them.
